PhD Studentship in Patient Communication

WC-PCR funded PhD Studentship
Warwick Medical School

Warwick Medical School with Coventry University offers a PhD
studentship
funded by Warwick and Coventry Primary Care Research on The
acceptability
and impact of on-line self-assessment as an adjunct to face to face
care in
general practice.

The PHD studentship will involve a three-year investigation into the
implementation and impact of a general practice-based system of
innovative
on-line self-assessment. The investigation will look at the advice and
structured email / on-line communication between patients and their
general
practices, including an exploratory trial of how this affects patient
experience and decision-making and the use of general practice
resources.
This work is associated with a broader research programme that focuses
on
redesigning health care processes in ways that involve IT to enable
improved
access; more effective information sharing and coordination of care;
enhanced collaboration between health care professionals and patients;
and
more cost- and clinically-effective management of demand.

The research programme will provide scope for the student to develop
literature searching and synthesis skills, qualitative and quantitative
research skills, project management, trial design and implementation
skills.
You must have or expect to receive a first or upper second class degree
in a
social or behavioural science; it is preferable that you have a MSc in
a
relevant subject.

The studentship is available for a period of three years, and includes
payment of tuition fees and a postgraduate stipend of £12,300 per
annum. You
will be based at Warwick, with supervision provided jointly between the
two
universities.

The studentship is available to UK, EU and International candidates.
International candidates (outside EU) would be required to pay the
difference between UK/EU Tuition Fees and International Tuition Fees.
It is
a requirement that overseas students pass an IELTS of TOEFL English
language
proficiency test. Further information on the language proficiency
requirements can be found at:
